Ask yourself, are you going to be a carrier of the panic or a vaccine of peace?</p>
<p>Peace and presence can be found in the fear itself. Each time you experience fear, anxiety, panic or insecurity, take a breath. Let that feeling be a starting point for a presence practice.</p>
<p>Relaxation and ease strengthen the immune system. <p>Besides eating whole foods and moving your body, getting enough sleep is the most important thing you can do for your health.&nbsp; Sleep deprivation makes you fat and it leads to depression, pain, heart disease diabetes and much more.</p>

<p>A new study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that people tend to overestimate the amount of sleep that they get.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Graciela Silva, assistant professor, college of nursing and health care innovation, at Arizona State University says:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>People are losing sleep.&nbsp; Although seven and a half to eight hours are recommended, people sleep, on average, six hours each night.&nbsp; Sleep deficiency may affect daily functioning and may be associated with increased risk for cardiovascular and metabolic conditions.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Here are a few suggestions&nbsp;on getting 8 hours of good sleep:</p>
<ol>
<li>Get on a regular schedule(go to bed and wake up at the same time every day)</li>
<li>Get 20-30 minutes of regular exposure to sunlight even if its cloudy out(daylight triggers powerful chemicals and hormones that release melatonin which is vital to sleep, mood and aging).</li>
<li>Refrain from heavy meals, hot baths, or vigorous exercise 3 hours before bedtime.</li>
<li>Avoid caffeine and alcohol late in the day.</li>
<li>Remove computers and televisions from the bedroom</li>
<li>And my favorite suggestion is finding a meditation CD to listen to when you are going to sleep.(one of my special&nbsp; CD&#039;s is <a href="http://healthybodynyc.com/planetary-meditation-for-peace/">Planetary Meditation for Peace</a>.</li>
</ol>

<p>So this is what Jack had to say about sleep:</p>

<p>&#039;Sleep your way to success&#039; was the chapter that I left out of my latest book after interviewing a professor at Cornell University, an expert on sleep, who noted that more than 60% of the population are sleep deprived.&nbsp; He recommended to go to bed without an alarm clock and see how much sleep you really need&#8230;go to bed a little earlier when you&#039;re doing this experiment.&nbsp;</p>

<blockquote>
<p>He went on to say that the majority of people need 8 hrs sleep and I committed to sleep 8 hours twice a week even though I get along fine on 6 hours.</p>
<p>Research shows that HGH(human growth hormone) in your body kicks in for most people somewhere after they have been sleeping for 6 hours and if you&#039;re sleeping less than 8 hours you&#039;re missing out on the muscle growth and anti aging effect from this hormone.</p>
<p>In addition, long term memory doesn&#039;t kick in until after 6 hrs.&nbsp; Research showed that students getting 8 hours of sleep got higher grades than those getting 6 hrs or less even though both groups of students had the same IQ.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Dr Oz agrees with Jack Canfield on sleep:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>There is something lacking in the bedroom that is aging us at warp speed.&nbsp; We&#039;re not sleeping.&nbsp; And sleeping is the fundamental way we reboot ourselves.</p>
<p>The growth hormone, which is important for maintaining vitality and youthful vigor, is almost impossible to increase naturally without sleep.&nbsp; Without the sleep that we know is so nourishing, we begin to dramatically age faster.&nbsp; It strips years off of our &#039;real age.</p>
<p>The next step is to relax. &quot;When you get in the bed, turn the lights down, do something that&#039;s soothing. Turn off the TV, turn off the computer. Don&#039;t do things that jazz you back up again, and you will find yourself gently slipping into sleep.</p>

<p>It&#039;s always important to try something and see how &#039;your&#039; body reacts. Just because an expert says it&#039;s good, it doesn&#039;t mean that it will work for your body.</p>

<p>So you can take the information today and try one or two things at a time.&nbsp; For my body, the relevant points on the list are sleeping well, exercising daily(I do Qi Gong/Yoga and build muscles that way), eating organic veggies, salads, drinking green tea with juiced ginger, laughing a lot and living my passions.</p>
<p>I don&#039;t agree with the grain part of his food suggestions.&nbsp; I gain weight when my diet consists of more than a few bites of grains a day.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr Oz said that your waist size is more important than your weight but the reason he gave was you&#039;ll look better..huh?&nbsp; I&#039;ve been writing about belly fat and how it is associated with heart disease and other health problems.&nbsp; Today he didn&#039;t mention it, although he has on other shows.&nbsp; He once brought an actual piece of fat which he called <a href="http://www.oprah.com/health/yourbody/slide/20061102/yourbody_20061102_350_103.jhtml">omentum</a> and said how dangerous it is to our health.</p>
<p>I laughed when the audience started counting as Dr Oz did some strength exercises pulling his whole body up to the bar.&nbsp; He also did a few yoga poses and Oprah asked him if his heels were supposed to be toucing the ground in &#039;Downard Facing Dog&#039;,&nbsp;&nbsp; He said yes and below is a video with downward facing dog so you can try it at home.&nbsp; There&#039;s a real dog in the video&#8230;.</p>

<p><a href="http://features.us.reuters.com//wellbeing/news/BDFA52D4-CAC7-11DC-AB8D-27F87391.html">In the article by Terri Coles</a>, she writes:</p>

<p>New research shows a direct link between inflammation around deposits of visceral fat, or fat that forms around major organs in the stomach, and atherosclerosis, the process of artery hardening that can lead to blood clots, heart attacks and strokes.</p>
<p>In the meantime, the advice for anyone who wants to reduce their risk of visceral fat-related health problems is the same,&nbsp; Eitzman said: lose weight through healthy diet and exercise. &quot;With weight loss you&#039;re going to lose not only total body weight but also visceral fat,&quot; he said. &quot;It&#039;s probably the case that weight reduction is going to reduce these inflammatory characteristics of the visceral fat.&quot;</p>
<p>That applies not just to people who are overweight or obese, but to anyone who has a high waist-hip circumference ratio. Previous studies have shown that these individuals may also be at risk for health problems like atherosclerosis and diabetes, even if they are at a normal weight.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&quot;I think that this goes beyond body mass index,&quot; Eitzman said, &quot;and there are people that may be classified as even normal weight that are still going to have inflammatory fat.&quot;</p>

<p>I&#039;ll write more on this subject in future posts, especially how it affects post menopausal women and what they can do to reduce their waist size and this dangerous visceral fat.(tummy fat)</p>

An article by Christian Nordqvist, editor &#8211; Medical News Today, reiterates what <a href="http://myrnaslist.typepad.com/healthybody_nyc/2007/03/is_it_your_wais.html">Mehmet Oz, MD and Michael Roizen, MD talk about in You: On A Diet</a> mentioned on one of my earlier posts.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In the article, <a href="http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=30641">Dangerous visceral fat builds up if you don&#039;t exercise, can go down if you do</a>, Nordqvist reports of a study in the Journal of Applied Physiology which showed&nbsp; those who exercised more, lost more visceral/tummy fat.</p>
